Installing Tire Chains
If you live where the climate gets snowy and slippery, then there's a chance you'll eventually
need tire chains. Roads become slippery and dangerous due to ice being formed on them in those
areas experiencing severe snowfall, and it brings many problems for motorists such as vehicle
breakdowns, slow speeds, road accidents and many more. So one of the best way to do is to have tire
chains. It is a metal cables with steel sleeves that use to wrapped around a tire, it helps to have
more traction on a slippery and snowy roads. At first, installing tire chains seemed like it would
be more hassle than we wanted to think about. Following these simple steps can make the job much more
easier.
- First its important to determine whether your car driven is front wheel drive or rear wheel
drive. Usually tire chains always go on the driving wheels. All vehicles are not suitable for
installation of traditional tire chains and may be verified through owner manuals, So its important
to check your car's owner's manual.
- Now the installing, its better to practice before it snows. New chains sometimes need to be
adjusted to the physical tire that you are using. If you are already on the road, pull over, set
your emergency brake and turn off the engine before you climb under the car.
- Lay the chains flat on the ground out flat and remove all twists and tangles. Make sure there
aren't any twists in the links. Make sure the smooth side of the cross member end hooks is lying
against the tires. keeping the speed or J hook fastener on the inside. On other end of chains,
make sure there is an equal number of free links on both sides.
- After inspection, begin by laying the cable flat near the tire you're installing it on. The
best and easiest way to drive the unit over the chains to a point that you can work them around
the tire or jack the wheel off the ground.
- Chain connections or links should face away from the tire tread when the chains are installed
to avoid having any sharp edges digging into the tire. Reach behind each tire and fasten the speed
hooks by inserting the J hooks through the third link from the other end of the chain. The lock
secures by hooking the end of it to the side cable. Make sure it is tightens, use of a rubber rubber
cord to further tighten the chains around the tire.
